Alicia Enge is a native of Houston, Texas. She has a Bachelor Science degree in Medical Technology and Biology. She is working on a Master of Hospital Administration. She has twenty-four years combined in medical field and medical sales. She has direct involvement in her local community through different organizations and her church. These community projects spear-headed her great need to service the community through education and empowerment for people. Alicia’s motto is Do not Say Something, Do Something! She is hoping the knowledge and commitment her board members have will be a great assets to the community by developing platforms to address the current injustices and inequalities.
LaTasha Rose is a native Houstonian. She studied in college included healthcare. Her main focus is to assist individuals to become more proactive in their knowledge of healthcare. LaTasha has over twenty years as a healthcare executive, billing coding and sales and marketing. She is affiliated with many local and civic organizations.
Carol Barnes serves as the Treasurer for A.O.C. Carol is a native of Chicago, IL. and a U.S. Army Veteran who served 22 years on active duty as a Commissioned Officer. Her assignments while serving include the National Security Council; The Office of the Secretary of Defense; the Office of the Secretary of the Army; and numerous other high level military commands. She also received numerous awards and decorations during her years of service. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Management at the University of Maryland, and her graduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. She has been a resident of Texas since 1974 and currently resided in Pearland, TX with her husband and daughter.
Nakia Hanson is a native of . Ms. Hanson has a Master Degree in Counseling . She has many Professional certified as a Life Coach from the Texas State Mediator, Certified Parent
Facilitator and Coordinator. Ms. Hanson has over 10 years of experience in social advocacy, and victim services. She has an expertise and passion working with victim and survivors of
relationship and sexual violence.
DeAngela Hayes has dedicated her career to making meaningful change in
urban communities. A product of some of Houston’s toughest neighborhoods
whose life was changed drastically through education opportunities, DeAngela
strongly believes in the value of quality education. After graduating from Rice
University in 2011 with her Bachelors in Anthropology, and convinced that
education was the optimal solution to issues of equity that plague urban
communities, DeAngela initially pursued a career in education as an AmeriCorp
Teaching Fellow. During her tenure as an educator, DeAngela realized her
influence was limited due to many factors out of her control, so she decided to
assume a role where she could have a larger impact on the family unit as a
whole. . DeAngela joined AOC as Director of Marketing upon graduating from
Wash U in May of 2017 as she considers awareness a central tenet of and
primary step in community development; she is also building her business skills
as a financial analyst. When DeAngela does not have her social justice warrior
hat on, she enjoys exploring the world (She’s been to 20 countries and counting.
Her most recent adventure was a solo trip to East Africa.), appreciating cultures
through food, touring breweries and wineries, and expanding her knowledge on
just about any and everything.
Anita Enge is a graduated from HSPVA and pursued communication in Texas Southern University along with theater. She worked at KPRC Traffic Central as a reporter. She was in several productions at Hobby Center and the Ensemble Theater. She served as a Child Advocate and the Red Cross. Anita
coordinated initiative to feed the downtown homeless. Anita has performed with many local bands and celebrity. She is happy to be apart a worth while cause to assist the community by disseminating information to those who are in need.
Taylor Allen is the Communication Coordinator for Action in Our Community. She is responsible for organizing all communications within and outside of the organization. She is a student at Prairie View A&M University with a major in Nursing. She joined Action in Our Community because she is a major supporter of social change and has been involved in many community service projects. She has volunteered at the Star of Hope, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, retirement homes and hopes to volunteer with many more organizations. She enjoys outreach and helping other people who society has marginalized.
Jarrett Armstrong is the Graphic Designer Coordinator. Jarrett graduated from Art Institute of Houston with an Associate degree in Graphic Arts (Graphic Design). He joined AOC last year. He enjoys the level of community driven projects and educational impact on the community as a whole.
